School Council visit Parliament with Year 6 reps

Two school council members from each class, and a Year 6 House Captain representative from each House, went on an exciting trip to the Houses of Parliament for a guided tour today. The purpose of the trip was to provide the pupils with the opportunity to see how decisions are made in parliament and develop a greater understanding of what democracy is. 

Following the trip, pupils will be asked to participate in an NASUWT project throughout the school to raise awareness about democracy and the role that the school council members play in this.

Pupils stood on the exact spot of Guy Fawkes' Gunpowder Plot and learned about parliament’s duty to rule the country and make decisions, guided by the values of mercy and justice. Pupils had the opportunity to explore many rooms including the Chamber of the House of Lords and the Queen’s dressing room. They learnt about the Battle of Trafalgar and enjoyed the many paintings of monarchs. 

After exploring the Great Hall of Westminster and eating lunch in Victoria Gardens, overlooking the Great Tower of London and the Buxton Memorial Fountain, they returned to class to tell their peers all about their adventures.

The happiness and security of children is our number 1 priority at Bushy Hill. It is also the guiding principle of the Home-School Link Worker (HSLW) role.

Among other things, a Home-School Support Worker can help with:

• children who are experiencing difficult times or are withdrawn or anxious
• parents/carers experiencing difficulties with their child’s behaviour
• families who are reacting to change, such as parental separation or bereavement
• parents/carers whose children are reluctant to attend school or who have been excluded
• parents/carers who may need support on a wide range of issues or difficulties impacting on their family life e.g. illness, domestic violence, disability, financial difficulties.

A lone Star, a baby and some Smarties

No, it's not a strange version of the Christmas story! 

First of all, we say a big 'well done' to our Year 3 Star who missed out on her award on Friday.

Next, how could two special spoons and some Smarties be the theme of this morning's assembly: do your children know?

Finally, we'd like to wish Mrs Yates all the very best for the birth of her baby. She'll be finishing school on Thursday to begin her maternity leave.

NSPCC assembly

Our focus on Anti-Bullying Week was rounded off by separate assemblies for upper and lower Juniors, lead by the NSPCC.

Talent Show Winners

Congratulations to the girls for being the winners in the Upper and Lower Junior sections, having received the highest scores from the judges. They were up against stiff competition as Megan and Louise raised a final, amazing total of over £180 for Children in Need.
